Pat's "RAFT"

In my school, there is a budget proposal to cut an full-time elementary library position to .6 FTE.  This would disrupt programs across our district.  If I'd had more time, both for preparation and presentation, I'd have added nice photos of kids at work in my library.  I knew I would have no more than 5 minutes to speak, and I wanted to keep the hand-out to one piece of paper (12 slide limit!)  Click on the link to see the Powerpoint I pulled together for our School Board.

I title my comment "taming the beast". (Folks might remember my past work life, and continued interest in, website maintenance.)

Now that we have a near class-end, organically-built wiki, how do we impose some full-site navigation upon this? For instance, I know for sure that I'm not going to remember how to go from this home page to get to the various VIT site's Inservice Presentation material. (For anyone familiar with a breadcrumbs trail, that particular navigation would go something like this: Home Page > March 14th VIT Session > InService Introduction > know to scroll down to the bottom of the page.)

And as a teacher trying to develop a wiki for a class (unless its a very simple wiki)... can anyone note any "best practices" for wiki development, to avoid "taming the beast" at near-end stage like this?

I, for one, don't have a "best practices" recommendation, but do have a burning compulsion to carve out time to tame this beast. My hope would be that someone, perhaps someone who has a background in website maintenance, would be willing to take on reformatting the wiki to be better organized and user friendly. As the site morphs from being a presentation tool to a resource, I would love to see it reorganized to highlight resources we have gathered. Extra credit perhaps?! I'd be happy to change your user designation to "administrator".

I have found that it's often easier to search for the page or info I need using the search box at the top of this page. Not perfect, but it works ok.

Oh, I miss my edli 274 community already. My principal is asking whether we want to try "K to 8th power" - a canned technology teaching system. Does anyone have experience with this? Advice? References? I'm not sure of the timeline on this, but any response is appreciated!
